History

In 1939, Monsignor J. Francis McIntyre—then Chaplain of the New York State Council of the Knights of Columbus and later a Cardinal—envisioned a women’s organization to work alongside the Knights in faith and service. His idea led to the formation of the Columbiettes, with the first Auxiliary established on March 2, 1939, in New York City. Since then, the Columbiettes have grown nationwide, united under State and Supreme Councils, and dedicated to the values of charity, unity, and faith.

At Saint William Catholic Church, our Columbiette Auxiliary continues this proud tradition—supporting parish life, helping those in need, and building lasting friendships grounded in faith. Join us and become part of a sisterhood that serves God by serving others!

Who are the Columbiettes

The Columbiettes are a vibrant organization of Catholic women whose spiritual patronesses are the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, and St. Joan of Arc—models of faith, courage, and devotion.

Each Columbiette Auxiliary is sponsored by a Knights of Columbus Council and works alongside the Knights to support their spiritual and social activities. Membership is open to Catholic women, 18 years or older, who are in good standing with the Church.

While dedicated to assisting the Knights, the Columbiettes also host their own spiritual, social, and charitable programs—fostering friendship, faith, and service among members. Through prayer, compassion, and community involvement, the Columbiettes live out their mission to serve God by serving others.
